You have probably heard of the Longaberger Company, an iconic basket-shaped building that was the headquarters of the Longaberger Company. This building can be seen in Ohio (United States of America).
The Longaberger Company is an American distributor and manufacturer of handmade wooden baskets and other household and lifestyle items. The company’s headquarters have now been relocated and the building is designed to be a luxury hotel.
The history of this company began in 1919 when JW Longaberger accepted an internship at The Dresden Basket Factory. After the closure of this company, he continues to make baskets at weekends. After some time he and his wife were able to raise enough money to buy the basket factory that had closed. Each basket was handmade, signed and dated by the manufacturer. In 2012, they reached $100 million in sales. In 2018 the company closed after being acquired in 2013 by CVSL, Inc. In 2019 it returned to activity owned by Xcel Brands.
The Longaberger building is a seven-story, 16722 square meter building. It was designed by the company itself and built by NBBJ and Korda Nemeth Engineering. It was inaugurated in 1997, the basket handles weigh approximately 150 tonnes and have a heating system so that during cold weather they are not damaged by ice.
In 2017, the building was purchased by Steve Coon and his partner. In 2018 they put it up for sale, but without success, so in 2019 they announced plans to convert this building into a luxury hotel and intend to add the construction to the National Register of Historic Sites.
